Our puppies will remain with us till "at least" 8 weeks of age. Some who may have show potential will remain for further evaluation for a while longer.
First off I am not a commercial enterprise, puppies in my whelping box just isn't the same as "how much is that puppy in the window". I breed for myself, I breed with every intention of "improving" what I have in hope of improving upon the breed. please keep in this in mind, remember this when I hold off time wise on getting your pup to you. In deciding who may/may not keep here with us, I may need to hold on to and grow a few. Patience is a virtue while waiting for your pup is difficult, I know I've been there. Your pup will be being well cared for, lead trained, well socialized and after my decision is made your pup will shortly be on it's way to his/her new home with you. Also while you may be particularly attracted by a specific pup via photos and or thru your visits. Be assured I will take note of your preference that pup will be posted as unavailable and wherever possible keep that preference in mind. However may not be the pup for you, it could be the one I keep here, it could be a bit to rowdy for laid back couple, a bit to laid back for avid walkers, a bit to much attitude for a home with children.
We have a lengthy questionnaire/application, and contract in which companion, performance puppies go to new families with *limited AKC registrations and must be spayed or neutered. We try to breed quality for temperament and structure.
We currently have only black and white and blue merle colors available. We evaluate the prospective families via questionnaire, conversations, and hopeful visits in the attempt to make the best match possible for you and your pup. Choosing a lifetime home for one of our pups is a very important process which we do not take lightly. Therefore color and sex may not b what you originally requested though we will do our best. You need to trust the breeder who has spent many hours with the pups from birth.
We welcome emails, phone calls and visits by appointment. Remember this is our home at time se are busy and I will undoubtedly be preoccupied with pups when we have them here. We hope families will be able to visit as much as possible before pups go home. We want to hear a bit about you, your family, lifestyle and why you want a Cardigan when you write or call. There are many more questions than on the questionnaire. As the family of one of our pups, you become a part of our family as well. We hope that's a good thing :)
For someone interested in a show prospect, we will want to spend even more time getting to know you and your situation. If you are new to the show thing and nearby I'll be more than happy to assist and guide you along the way. If your home is in a different area, I will put you in touch with someone to do the same. Cardi people are nearly wonderful as the breed itself. Show prospect pups (for the conformation show ring and possible future breeding) are reserved for screened show homes only. Being placed with unlimited registration and without spay/neuter clause in contract. if you are unknown to me I will remain on pups registration as a co-owner. This is in hopes of keeping any offspring of my Cardigans from being placed in puppy mill/pet shop situation. This of course will be discussed further with each individual family.
*limited AKC registration pups can compete in any AKC performance venue aka herding, tracking, obedience, rally, agility...they can not be shown in conformation nor would any pups born from dog be eligible for AKC registration.
Notes worthy of mention, filling out questionnaire is no guarantee of a pup. Also if questionnaire is not filled out and returned I won't be contacting you in regards to a puppy once they are born. If you do send filled out questionnaire back I will contact you in a reasonable amount of time letting you know I have received it, reviewed it and possibly ask a few more questions. Once pups are on the ground you will be contacted, with more questions :).
Also once pups are on the ground I will require a deposit to reserve a pup for you.. The purpose of a deposit is not to make sure you will take puppy. The primary purpose is to make sure you call me when/if you decide you do not wish to have a puppy at this time. Dependent on the circumstances and timing of our being informed you do not wish to take your pup your deposit will be refunded. However as noted in the word timing, if pup was to leave for it's new home that day/week what have you, your deposit refund may have to wait till another home is found for that pup.. When I find families that I feel will be a good placement, I will work with them timing wise to make the placement work. Some things aren't do-able even in the best homes and I realize this. If for some reason after sending deposit and you suddenly disappear despite various attempts (email, phone calls) you can expect your deposit will not be refunded if after 30 days we have not heard back from you..
Don't hesitate prior to receiving your pup to ask for and review our puppy contracts. Don't hestiate to contact me with any questions both prior to and after receiving your pup. And "please" send pix thruout your pups hopefully long and healthy life.
